Forgot to add how the underside looks! So the cape is sewn pretty tight around the armpits, then I did the back middle where I wanted the bottom of the cape to sit at bum level. Then I just tucked in the excess so the inside cape still has a nice rounded curve without extra puckers. Inside sleeve on the right for reference and outer cape pulled up at the neck.

Well we finally got some work done on this today. I’ve attached the cape. I originally wanted to make it snapped and detachable for cleaning, but the weight of the fabric was too much to do it without it pulling in strange places. So it is sewn down.

My “I’m so done with this today” face. I’m finding that I will need to narrow my left wrist part of the undershirt sleeve a little, as it is not bunching as nicely as the right hand. But I think the cape sleeves sit nicely and the outside is longer than the inside.

As for construction wise, the visible seams are clean right now. The neck is still unfinished as that will connect to the outer layer of the hood, and then the inner layer of the hood will tidy that up and add the trim. I’ve also included the two arm seams you can see on the reference photo. They kind of sit on either side of the shoulder. A lot of this is still going to be covered up by the hood/wrap combo that will finish off the top layer.

I also love how this fabric is like the horse of many colours and can look so different depending on the lighting [emoji1787]

It only took three days, but I finally painted all the stencils on the cape part.

So the cape will need an ironing, and then need to be attached before I start on the hood and front criss cross bits that remain. So right now you can see all the ugly edges but at least it feels like I got *something* done in this slump.

Also got a curly lace front wig that will likely need a styling the night before each wear, but I think I have a system down for it now. Got some spirit gum and will see if that helps with the weight of it.

Well, keeping myself honest - had a big slump in motivation here. But. I've booked a whole week off work in January around my birthday with the intent to finish this darn thing, so that's the goal.
It happens to us all....thats great :) keep us posted.

Right. Can officially say I’ve joined the Hasbro collectors club as I found this beauty and am shipping it to my mom in Maryland to smuggle over [emoji1787]

Now to just finish up!

This is looking wonderful Chantel. AS Empathy said, feedback is is it won't effect clearance but we understand that once you see something you are unhappy with, you will always notice it. I'd advise to make you mind up later once you know what fabric you have left. Again, print them out on paper, pin, take photos and the mannequin and compare with refs using the ?Layout app from instagram. You are more than welcome to message me for a second opinion or anyone else you feel would be best placed to advise. Keep going, you're doing great!

This is looking really lovely.

On redoing the back panel, its down to you really. The feedback in the group from detachment etc seemed to be that it wouldn't effect clearance.........however i do know all too well the feeling of wanting it to be right. (if i had the energy i would remake everything ive ever made, i think as creators we see the flaws that others don't).

Not much today as it was pay day to go buy food and cat food [emoji1787]. But I got the beads on and now just need to finish sewing on the front panel and then hem.

More skirt work today. It stays right up with just some interfacing in the back. I also managed to put in an invisible zipper to save strife in the future because you need that to get the damn thing over the hips.

Image

So first step is doing the horizontal smushes. This pulled the side seam forward a little, despite me adding more length to the front to accommodate for the bunches. It’s such a light seam I don’t think it will matter at all so I’m not too bothered by this.

Downside is due to the tightness required to hold it up it is a little bit tight. But I thought I’d err on that side because the weight of the thing over time will stretch the fabric to probably an okay fit, especially if I let it sit on the dress form for a while.

Image

Next up was 20 inches of fabric with thread every inch to make the ruffles. I gathered it and then fluffed it to about 3” across.

Image

I might still shuffle the ruffle a bit as the one side is a little tighter, but when the beads get put on, I don’t think it will matter. For now it is only attached on the back underside as I needed to hand sew that first to hide it with the top. I left myself some seam allowance on the sides to attach it to the main skirt and straight stitch that after the placement is good.

Image

So now we have this for the time being, and it is not hemmed yet or beaded. Tomorrow. Overall this skirt has been a much easier job than the top.

Re assessing my stamping disaster, if I take the time to seam rip I actually only need enough fabric to redo ONE back panel, because the side ones aren’t painted and neither is the front. So this may be less of a disaster than initially expected.

I may still seam rip everything and completely redo the trim, and then put some firmer interfacing on the underside edge to fix that puckering issue I had the first time.
