Battle Handmaidens...assemble!

Post by Padme Amidala » Tue Jul 09, 2019 4:13 pm

Hi everyone!

This has been in talks for a while, and now I'm off and we've got a good sample of fabric thought it was best to start a WIP before the WIP god descended!

We've been discussing about doing a base build of Episode I battle handmaidens, and have been speaking to some of you at troops about it. So, this thread is to gain interest from those that would be committed to join us on this build and to document our progress as we go.

Image

Empathy and I have been looking into the main fabric to start us off, and finding it in a stretch, a large enough amount for us and as cost effective as possible. As we would like as many of you to join us as possible, we are looking at cheaper fabrics rather than expensive silk. That being said, I have found one that we think ticks all the boxes. Please see below. It's a stretch velour fabric, as we need to be able to move in those trousers!

Image

We will be looking at sourcing the trim, shirt and lining fabrics soon. The pattern will be worked on and will likely be shared amongst us so that we can make our own. A support message group will be needed! :hide:

We will also be looking for anyone to help us with the blasters and belt rig. Particularly casting the buckle. Alas, I do not know how to do such wizardry. So if you would like to help us too, please let us know!

I hope as many of you will join us, as comfy costumes are a must! Please register your interest below. Thank you x

Haindmaidens:
1. Empathy Gray
2. Kat Moore
3. Chris Moxey
4.

We can all support and cry together......there's alot of research and build threads already, so I think we will be ok.

I’m in! Also, with some high res buckle photos I can try my hand at them. I have some experience with silicone moulding and resin casting, and was taught it through college courses, and have made a few pieces this way in the past. Can’t guarantee they would be as amazing as other people’s work, but I can try my hand at a sculpt next month and see what we think! If not, I’m sure there will be a print out there somewhere. And could sand and mould that to then cast in resin. Will update as we go. Hopefully, pending cost, would love to join in on this with you all :+)

That would be great Beth...... if there is a few of us we can all chip in for the supply's. We are wanting to try and make it affordable for everyone to join in.

I don’t know when this is kicking off, but what does everyone think of these Naboo blasters? This shop has 3d-printed ones (kits or assembled) on sale and they’re also 4 for the price of 3...

If we can source it and spread out the cost over time...I have been wanting a "non face" costume alternate. :-)

Okay, well if we are all gonna jump in, I'm happy to do so as I need a non-face and I'm reading Queen's Shadow and am partial to handmaidens :-)

hello! i'm very keen to get involved with this group build... i've been perpetually making an Ahsoka and an Aayla and never submitting them, but as i'm going to SWCA I want to go in one of my favourite outfits in the whole saga! I would be making two, one for me and one for a friend who's going with me but has never sewn anything before. Let me know if this is still going ahead! <3

Yes we are still doing this, its just a very slow thing, so we can source and people can afford it etc.
