Okay- so these feel done. Pale or light matte blue or grey low heeled boots.

The chalk paint was a “winter grey” so there is a hint of blue to it. So far it seems to breath bendable as I started it 50/50 water to paint and then did a thicker layer at the end and finished it with some sneaker protector. It remains to be seen if it bends well, however it did hold up on fabric furniture, so I am hopeful. If not we’ll go back to the drawing board.

So I started doing the worbla for the headpiece today. I already had the paper cut outs sized for my head. So I cut 1/4 inch strips and then burned myself and my house. I put a bit of a second strip on in parts to add some depth to it so it did t look totally flat. I have not sanded anything yet or primed it.

Image

Then I got my head wrapped in a bin bag so my hair wouldn’t stick to it while I was heating it up and burning my head. I sort of shaped these two pieces to my head.

Image

Lastly I needed to try to draw the ear pieces. I think this shape mimics as close as I can see from the limited shots we have. We’ll see if it works tomorrow.

It’s been slow going today. My fake head’s size is smaller than mine, which I discovered AFTER I sized it to that.

So I had to add some inserts and make it sit a little better. It’s now just over my ears. I will need to make the bun scrunchies a little more compressed. I haven’t added any wig clips yet nor have I sanded or done a primer. We’ll see if I can get some of that done tomorrow and if I don’t hate it.

It's a bit late, but may help someone else, so I'll pop it here. Basically it details how to get the shape of you head:

Wig blocking/head wrap

This is a technique that allows you to create a ‘template’ of your head shape, that can then be added to a cheap polystyrene head. You can then use it to style you wig on. It also helps to see where your own hairline is if you are styling a lace front wig.
You need 2 people. Clear tape, A marker and some clingfilm.
Put your hair up like you would if you were putting a wig on, ie hair net, pin curls etc.
Wrap the clingfilm round your head so its like a hat, the tape it down using quite a bit of tape. Then draw round your hairline and mark where your ears are, cover that in more tape so it doesn’t rub off and wiggle it off your head.
You will notice that your clingfilm template is bigger then the wig stand, you want to pin your clingfilm at the front tape it down and start to pad it out, tape round the edges. make a slight cut in the top to stuff it, just make sure you tape it back up. I usually wrap the whole head in clingfilm after that and tape it, then you can use it to hot curl a wig. To make it more stable to work on you can attach the wig to a small square of MDF. You now have a template of your head to work on.

I should have thought about this because I have wrapped my body in cling wrap before for patterns...but alas forgot about the head.

Today I’ve narrowed the little ear loopy but at Fran’s suggestion and liked that. I also added a second layer of worbla for strength on the connection between the front and back now that it sits about right.

I’ve also been layering it over and over in glue. Still not quite smooth enough yet, but hopefully by tonight we’ll be done with glue, on to a final sanding and then a black undercoat with rub and buff silver on top.

Me, mentally done with glue but not actually done with glue.

Proportions look pretty good, I think you've done well from limited refs.....Maybe throw up some side by side pic's?

Boba Bear wanted to feel pretty. I think the top part is pretty darn close, and the filagree all looks flat there.

The one side shot it almost looks like they curve in the edges, but when you look at it from the article photo straight on you can see it is still flat filigree.

I could probably have moved the one loop in a little closer, but for practicality’s sake I kept mine out on the circles a little more to maintain the oval integrity and also help hold in the hair pieces I’ll be wearing. I’ve still got to attach some wig clips to the top.

Here's a quick video of how it sits on the head in a 360.

I’ve got rub and buff all over my hands but that’s it for tonight. It will have to finish tomorrow.

Looking at the last refs you posted, the back set of loops (the chain looking part) look like they may be a little far back. Unfortunately Kat is not around till the weekend.

I'm gonna pop my head in global and see what everyone else has done.

It’s still all *sort of* able to heat up and move around again, but when you do that it decreases. The structural integrity. I did tell myself “I wonder if I can get this a little higher” but it is tricky and my husband is flippin useless and doesn’t have the capacity to help level it as we set placement on my head.

It sits really stable now, and the ears are in a good pretty straight position. So if I don’t *have* to go at it with the heat gun, I will try to avoid that. I know I want to get things perfect but I’m losing the fight to this thing. Maybe I need to sew today and come back to it. Lol.

Headpiece formed to the top of the head in a diamond shape of silver with a filigree, Art Nouveau knot-like pattern with two large oval-shaped filigree loops which frame the curled hair buns.

Post Edit at 1:20 pm: After having some coffee I now have the will to craft again. You aren't wrong, and I know I'd be angry at myself if it wasn't as close as I could get it so out comes the heat gun again

Okay good call. I managed to splice it and reheat it and move it higher.

The wig clips are still drying so I did not feed them into my hair yet.

The shaping on that looks much better. My concern is the finish. Is there anyway you can get that much smoother? You've done so much hard work already, it can make or break it. The texture looks bumpy and it needs to be as smooth as possible. I think spray painting. It also would be better once it's smoothed. A nice black gloss as an undercoat then hit with a high chrome metallic spray.

That’s going to be a “more gesso” and sand problem. Which is doable, I believe I can just layer more crap on top. Might do a B&Q run today.
