Re: Bekky’s Lyn Me WIP
With the 501st there has to be a CRL for people to clear, so maybe they just take it when someone builds? So if someone interprets detail wrong, then the CRL ends up wrong, unless the detachment or LMO catch it I guess?
RL has some vague and unhelpful standards too, so it happens everywhere. Another thing to consider is that some CRL's were written years and years ago before we had amazing zoom on mobiles and computers, visual guides and the frame by frame breakdown. Some of the original ones were done from pausing video I believe. The back detail for some costumes like the RFT have only been found from auction items.
Also getting that gathering over a large bust may need the darts....so that may be something to consider when writing up.
I keep thinking that some bits behave like latex......the visual guides calls them senua bindings, which makes me think they are in part based around Shibari, which would explain having continuous lengths, with all the tying and knotting.

Re: Bekky’s Lyn Me WIP
Good idea, I'll have a look! Always hesitant with exhibition pictures as often the costumes are displayed... slightly strangely (Scavenger Rey was frequently displayed with her staff upside down, missing 2 backpack greeblies and with her second bodywrap tied completely wrong!) - this one looks like they've tied her arm wrappings to the underarm strap, although that's probably just to stop them sliding off!
I'm going to go on an internet hunt and see if anyone has pictures of the back! I really, really want to know how the collar is tied (I'm suspicious, given how the arm and leg ties are secured at the bottom, that it's a fitted collar with a long, wide strap over the top just wrapped around her neck a bunch and tucked in) and what the underarm straps look like where they're secured to the collar. Also whether the Lekku straps are attached to the headwrap in two places each side, or one... so many questions!

This will be fabulous! Freed's would make you white pointe shoes (though they'd be a special order so I don't know how expensive). Similarly an American online outfit called BestPointe.com.

A couple more suggestions from my dancing friends -
https://bestpointe.com/category/shoes/p ... nte-shoes/
or you could "pancake" an existing pair, with foundation or calamine - lots of YouTube tutorials. Presume you are familiar with the comfort level of a pair of pointe shoes but you could consider Bloch's "soft blocks" to save your feet ....

Re: Bekky’s Lyn Me WIP
Bekky,
Unless you are completely used to and comfortable in them, I wouldn't recommend pointe shoes. As has already been suggested, soft blochs or demi pointe may be a more comfortable shoe. The problem being pointe shoes can and will squash your feet.
You will probably need 2 or more sizes bigger than a fitter will recommend.
And soak them in water for comfort.

Re: Bekky’s Lyn Me WIP
Thanks so much both of you for your ballet shoes feedback!
For now the ones I have are serviceable, if not strictly accurate. I have a friend whose sister is a professional dancer, and we thankfully have the same shoe size! So when social distancing rules etc allows, she’s going to let me try on some of her old practice pairs, practice walking in them etc and and I’ll see if a pair of Demi-pointe shoes would be doable. Until then, I’ll stick with my existing pair!
I’ve taken a bit of a break with Lyn Me, partly because I’ve been more excited about working on my Armourer and partly because I wanted to lose the last few lbs of christmas weight before trying to strap myself into something like this!! But I’ve been building the structural layers of the leotard today. I’m using some thicker pleather for the base neckpiece and belt, which will be under the most pressure. I’m then going to cover them with the thin stretch pleather.
I’ve made the loops that hold the main leotard up out of proper leather for strength, and I’ll paint them to match the rest of it as all I had was brown!
The bust pieces here are a chopped-up bikini. I’ve sewn in some silicone bra cups for support and shaping, and I’m going to totally wrap this in the thin stretch pleather - just trying to figure out the structure of that piece! I may use a non-stretch piece underneath to support the bra-cups and then the stretch will be more in the back where it attaches to the collar piece. It’ll require more fiddling!
This just shows the shape - none of this is the final fabric apart from the two thick straps attached to the collar piece! Just to show the structure of it. I’m also going to make the belt thinner, it’s a bit too wide at the moment.

Re: Bekky’s Lyn Me WIP
(Looking at the pictures on computer not phone - I need to lop a bit off the collar piece, it's covering way too much of my chest. Will make that change in the morning!)

I like the idea of the bust support, it might make it more tricky to get the pleating/gathering correct over the top, but I really like where its going.

Re: Bekky’s Lyn Me WIP
It’s been a while but I’ve made more progress! I restructured the leotard so it’s in two parts (the top part Velcro’s to the back of the waistband) both for con purposes and because I was struggling to sew through so many fabric layers, and I’m far happier with it now!

The bust pieces look a bit smoother here than they do on me (my dress form has bigger boobs than me, womp womp) - I did manage to sew in the creases at the waistband so that they look pretty nice when I’m wearing it. Once I’ve finished the main structure I may do a couple of tiny hidden stitches to hold the folds where I want them, but I’m a way away from that.
Still need to trim the collar piece a bit, but in super exciting news, a friend managed to screenshot me a reference of how the straps attach to it at the back so I know I’ve got the shape pretty much right! They are VERY low res as she’s in the background here, but you can see how they are untwisted and crossed over each other, then attached to the collar:

I still need to cover my collar piece with the stretch pleather (I’m going to use interfacing to stiffen it so it hides the construction of the layer underneath) but I’ve tried to approximate this shape. It’s a bit of a faff to get on, so I’m glad I made the top and bottom parts separate!

Forgot to get a pic of the back after my work on it today but I’ve literally just stitched this into place and trimmed off the excess - the collar still Velcros at the back and I’ll get a decent picture of it all once I’ve put the top collar layer on!

Great progress and fantastic that you found a back shot, your attention to detail on this has been awesome! Cant wait to see it all together.
Are you going to submit a proposal for a standard rewrite?

Absolutely! Been working on it alongside so once I’ve finished the costume I’ll post it here (unless there’s anywhere specific I should post it for discussion?)tenebris wrote:Great progress and fantastic that you found a back shot, your attention to detail on this has been awesome! Yeay
So as it's a revised standard I think it's here:
One is the discussion and one is the proposal section, but i think they have posted proposals in the discussion section? I shall check with the DCO's of Hive and Supporters.
