I feel like David Attenborough. Albeit speaking without any authority at all apart from I've run around in green at a weekend.

Of the 452 people involved in the discussion of the net bag of rocks, we haven't currently found a reference of such an item but there are still 32 people now tasked with the search. Previous clearance of a costume doesn't ensure it would clear at a later date. standards and practices do change.

Without going too deeply into the history and technology I've been reading about of the mid to late stone ages...

Can we provide a reference? Not at this point. We've seen spears, bolas, slings and clubs used in ROTJ as weapons and the strike team were captured in a coarse net (bloody wookiees) so you can extrapolate that ewoks can use edged and pointed tools. There is also scope to debate unreferenced items recovered from ship crashes or stolen from the invading Imperial forces of oppression.
(Begin theoretical discussion)
Quite a fine net would be needed at carry sling or catapult sized rocks successfully. A skin pouch or bag on a belt, satchel like bag or even a bum bag however can be seen. A net is possible, could even be plausible but not proven. Leia's dress and their cowls show ewoks might well be able to sew. Probably better than I can.
Weapons technologies comparable to 10000BC or so would be likely but may not have a reference. A rough net of ammo rocks is possible (given ewoks used toxins on weapons) but even if in keeping with the look and timeframe a judge may well reject or query without a reference. You're in the mindset of a late stone age hunter. What would you make and carry to hunt with if you can't provide a reference and how lucky do you feel to try it with a judge?

Personally, if it looks rough enough then it could be possible. Possible isn't always enough though.

Thanks for the advice :) I'm probably just going to go with a spear for now, and maybe a satchel. Who is the Ewok costume for RL UK?

We don't have specialists for every costume. The detachment CO is Eric, Kaid has an ewok and pops into to help....I'm one of the BMO'S along with Claire and we cover helping all builds.

The thing with the Ewoks is, there is a lack of info on the main forum ..... most of the info is in the Ewok FB group. If you have not joined I would suggest it. Then post here in your WIP as you build so we can check against the CRL, also documenting the build will help others.

These arrived today. I had a couple of questions that sprung to mind.

What colour should the hands and toes be painted?

Also should the nails be painted a different colour.

Thanks Image

Where the standard doesn't specify a colour.......which this one doesn't. I would look through the references.Just search through till you find the part of the film with the ewoks, then you can see what colour the hands are.

Here's the standard:

Here is a the link to the screen caps for ROTJ:

Okay so after a bit of upheaval with me starting uni I’m getting this back up and running.

I was inspired by a video from Adam Savage I’m Tested YouTube channel and how he built his Toronto costume. He essentially used a series of concentric rings made of wicker to make the frame of the costume, with padding and fur laid and attached on top. I’m hoping this could be done for an Ewok. I drew a rough outline of myself the other day and worked out a basic size guide to each ring. The blue is the shape of the Ewok, the red is where the rings will be. I know other Ewoks have used similar methods in the past, helping to make the costume lighter and only very warm instead of it being 10,000 degrees in there Image.

Excuse the crude photo, this was done on my tiny budget on a uni flat floor Image.

Looking forward to finding out what you guys think of this idea.

A few global members have made an undersuit like this, you could also look at the construction of historical womens undergarments like crinolines, as that could be be a more robust longer lasting solution, following the same kind of idea.

Plastic plumbing pipe could be formed into rings and might be more resilient, 20mm OD or so. Foam board stuff, in a few layers could also work.

I'm gonna make a start on the fur. does it have to be dark colours, or can it be like light brown, grey etc.

I'll get hold of some samples before taking the plunge :)

Plenty of colour choice as ROTJ had grey ones and all kinds of browns. Have a look at starwarsscreencaps for inspiration.

I think I might go with grey and brown. I guess it would be a good idea to have the body a darker colour than the belly. I haven’t really found any the other way round.

There’s the one at the front here that’s like chestnut brown and a real light shade of grey.

I also like this colour just on its own aaahhh I’m torn Image.

What do you guys think?

I did a few very rough sketches today. The orange I’m imagining as a more lighter shade of brown, didn’t have the right pen Image.

I think my favourites are the first and last one. I’ll get some samples ordered.

Samples are on order . I’m starting to think about the padding again. I think for now I’m gonna go for padding instead for now. I have ideas for how to the whole arms, legs etc. We’ll see how it goes
