Final coat of leather dye today. And I'm happy. The tab needs replacing still.

Currently having a melt down about the vinyl printing for the sleeves. Grrr....

So this afternoon, I played with the vinyl paint for the inserts for the sleeves.




These are all obviously test pieces. Trying to work out the method closest to what the costume makes used. I have been told that they used vinyl paints, having spoken to some of the costumer designers at a Q&A session for a book signing.

Hence why I'm pulling my hair out over it.

So the top and trousers are all but completed.

The jacket and the vest need work still. But the seamstress has managed to find the cotton wadding for the back of the vest.

Yay, she is so awesome.

Went up to see the seamstress yesterday to collect bits that need painting and drop off other bits. I was able to also have a first fitting for the trousers and top.

Things have obviously been improved on, over the past year of wearing this costume.

I never really did get on with the wig, and therefore never bothered trying to wear it. I ended up permanently altering the colour of my hair, which is now a dark chocolate brown, which is much more screen accurate. I know that I could have kept trying with the wig, but to be honest when it comes to getting ready for troops, sometimes the changing facilities can be minimal or a quick turnaround is required, so using my hair instead actually ends up far easier and a lot less hassle.

I've since replaced the original blaster. The Traywick A180 is good, however my basic paint job on it wasn't. A friend put me in contact with someone that was doing a run of painted blasters that were amazing. So I go one of those.

The rank badge on the jacket is one of my favourite silly pieces... The red rectangle that comes with the Traywick one is perfectly fine, however I decided that I wanted to go for better accuracy and used a red push button. As you can see in the various pictures above, it seems to suit rather well. Well, I think it does.

I replaced the belt and holster pretty quick on clearing with one made our own leathersmith, David. It's so much nicer in so many ways. The colour being something that I was never that happy with, on the original one. Also the way in which the tonfa clipped on, I was never happy about.

The hook for the tonfa was replaced with a screen accurate dagger clip on the new belt. This is much more practical, particularly when trooping as I know that is close crowds, the tonfa will not be lost or worse stolen because it is so secure on the clip.

The straps on the trousers were required to be painted a different colour, which was done very easily with some matt emulsion in the correct colour.

The stitching on the boots I did with my sewing machine. And the flaps are attached with black velcro, which is has the same appearance as the fastening that can briefly be seen on screen when Cassian opens up the flap to reveal hidden lock picking tools.

And so, continuing on, with the things that I have learnt, wearing this for over a year.... (How did that happen???)
Although I originally glued the velcro on the boots for the flaps, I have since had the velcro attached to the boots by a cobbler. It is therefor enow stitched on. Although the glue on the velcro was good, it didn't really cope with the weather in the UK. The irony being, the weather in Atlanta it coped beautifully.
