Robin's Jawa WIP

Post by master of disguise » Thu Sep 06, 2018 10:06 pm

Hello
This is my Jawa costume which mianly based on Rusty Goffe's Jawa in Star Wars: A New Hope.
The Jawa is cleared with the 501st legion and i'm currently using with the Isle of Wight Garrison.
The whole of the cosutme is hand made using 4 large cotton throws (which took me months to find) which have the same twill weave as the film fabric which i then hand dyed and cut into robes.
The hood is over sized and lined with black fabirc and i've wired the front of the hood.
The boots are wellies which have been covered in the same fabric.
The wasit coat is faux leather, which was painted and I stiched it with leather cord to match film verson.
The ammo belt was bought and weather.
The Gun belt was hand made with real leather and then dyed and weathered.
The mask is lite with LEDs and covered with the same fabric as the hood
The gloves are simple rubber gloves which i added hair from a wig and lengthened them with black fabric upto my elbow.
The Gun (my favorite bit) is also hand made with a wooden stock and the rest is all metal which cut to match an orginal cut down rifle, the grenade part is made from a metal gas canister and the whole thing was then weathered.
I also have a droid caller, which i made but i don't use it much as I don't have my hands free if i do.

Uttini!
You look great Robin!
I’m no Jawa expert so I’ll keep quiet but one of more educated members will chime in if they see anything that may pose a problem :)

Looks great robin, I'm not a jawa expert by any means, but the way you've taken the profile shots means we can't see the full hood profile or your sleeves when down from the side. I'm not sure if this is something a judge may want to see, to confirm there are no top seams on the sleeves or shoulders.....But a jawa person will be able to give advice on that.

Hi there... This looks great and its really good to see a different looking jawa with the vest.

Do you have any reference pictures for Rustys jawa for comparison?

My only comments /concerns are:

~as mentioned above there needs to be a left and right arms down pic to check for arm seams.

~could you confirm this is a front off centre opening and not a closed seam down the front.

~gloves should be 'Black cloth or leather (or leather-like) gloves extending over the wrist (and along the arm to ensure no skin is visible).' so these would most likely need changing out.

Otherwise it looks great! Good job.

This is the same costume and photos that was already cleared with by UKGarrison,
I did base this on Rustys costume but if it's easyier, just class it as a standard Jawa, as i'm prb making it over complicated and all the same elements will cover the same costume...
However these are about the best 'stills' of Rustys costumes (you can see it easyier in the film, although as you prb already know he's wearing differnt banoliers in differnt scenes as they changed the gear around depnending where in the world they are film at the time).

I already have another set of gloves which will cover what you want
see photo:

The robes have a front off centre connected with hidden poppers which should be the same as the film costume.

Please see photo for arms (sorry the best i have at hand) there are no seams on the top of the arms.
