Lady D- Female jedi WIP
Hello. I shall restart my wip. With my latest project. I'm getting better every time I sew a tunic. This one was a little bit of fun as I paired it with a high low skirt. Was going for a steampunk vibe. Bit then star wars is quite punk already. ;)
Still can't decide on the tabbard colour.
(Seems like it can't add photos attachments)

I'll have to wait till I can get on the pc to try and see if my Flickr is still working. It doesn't like my phone for some reason.Stroudy wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2018 7:53 pmLadyoftime wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2018 7:48 pmHello. I shall restart my wip. With my latest project. Hi there, welcome back! From the first photo, it looks like your tunic is a decent length and shape. Have you added double shoulder tucks, though? That probably won't get past the judges, I'm afraid.
If you could get photos of you wearing the tunic and other bits you have so far, we'll be able to give you a better idea of what's needed.
Love the steampunk fusion! I've done both mediaeval and formal crossovers with my generic Jedi kit.

This brown is basically a wearable muslin of what I will make. As I totally forgot to write down what I did adjustment wise last time. I've learned that the pattern is made for huge shoulders. Did nice neat tucks then found the shoulders were halfway down my arms hence the double tucks. Was hoping to hide one set under tabbardsDangams wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2018 9:28 pmHi there, welcome back! Re: Lady D- Female jedi WIP
Hmm, you might be able to get away with that, depending on how it and the tabards sit on you. But to be honest, if you're making a new one anyway, I'd redo it so you have just the one set. My first tunic ended up with tucks in my arms too, so I know that pain. I ended up using a massive seam allowance to make the body narrower, but if you're remaking you can just cut slightly smaller pieces.

I struggle to get it wide enough to fit bust/hips and then narrow enough for my shoulders without messing up the shape.Dangams wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2018 8:16 pmHmm, you might be able to get away with that, depending on how it and the tabards sit on you. Darts may be your answer if you haven't tried them already - however, I'm not an expert in tailoring, so I'll see if someone with more knowledge can drop in here.
I'm really not sure that you'll be able to clear with the double tucks as the fit of the tunic is one of the things that the judges look at quite carefully.

Re: Lady D- Female jedi WIP
Hi! This is looking fab and the fit is really good. I agree it is tricky getting Jedi tunics to flatter female body types, but this works :)
The only thing is what David said about the shoulder tucks, they are sitting a bit low. The stitching should ideally be hidden by the tabard, and the edge of the tuck should be more or less in line with the edge of the tabard.
The shoulder seam itself should be the very edge of the tuck, so you don't have to add width to the shoulder, as all the tucked fabric comes from your sleeve (which has to be overly long so you don't end up losing length there)
It gives a clean streamlined look that is seen onscreen. It is an easy fix and shouldn't detract from the fit of the rest of your tunic.
Hope I'm not patronising you with this diagram as I can see you're obviously a talented seamstress, this is just a contribution I made to a future tutorial/guide to help new people who maybe don't have as much sewing experience, but just wanted to include it in case my description was a bit vague.
Hope that helps! :)
