This looks great bud! You've no such a good job, it would be a crime not to proceed with the rest of the armour.. ;)

Do a clone they said, it’ll be fun they said...
So after being tempted since I did the helmet, I picked up this S4 KW (imperial surplus) armour from another member.
If I felt out of my depth on a TK this is a whole different level

Image

As well as the armour picked up some crow prop boots at the same time.

I also have an animated DC-15S kit coming from Merc Supply Store.
I already have an under suit from other costumes. Only main thing left to get is a neck seal.
Think this will be a slow and hopefully steady build. Aim to have it ready for MEM in Nov, but hopefully if I have the time I can get it done sooner.

Done a little bit more work on this. Mainly tidying up return edges. At this moment in time I am concerned about the forearms. I taped them up and the generic size they would be too tight to fit over my hands, if I open them to fully in close and make seamless the cuff would be really wide so decided to crack on with some other bits first.

Forearms trimmed down:

Glued the biceps together (Claps and magnets have now been removed but forgot to get photos):
Image

Glued the outside part of the shins, unfortunately I will have to Velcro these to open as I can get my feet through when fully closed:
Image

I also trimmed the inside return edge so the shin sits more flush:

Trimmed and glued the outside and inside shoulder bells. I also added poppers to the inside ready for the strapping system. (everything is glued but didn’t take photos):

Had a little test fit to see how everything lines and up to see how big of a shim I need to put in. (thanks to Will and Pete):

Next on the list is the thighs. Going to get them tidied up and partially glued, start clearing the forearms and Seamus and then move on to the torso.

Due to this lovely storm we are having I managed to get some progress done.
Made a start on the thighs, finely trimming things down and cleaning everything up then glued everything together. I added a tab with a snap similar to a TK:
Image

While the thighs are gluing I trimmed the inside tabs and added Velcro. I’m not too happy with how they are sitting so will be changing out the current velcro with something a bit more heavy duty:

Next I will tackle the forearms.

Seconded, always love the detailed progress.

Have we linked to the source for the magnets before?

Not sure. Magnets I used for the helmet are these ones:

As you have to buy them in bulk they have come on useful with the construction of the armour as well.

Tried the full legs on this morning, want to add some padding on the inside so they sit a little better but pretty pleased so far. (Please excuse the non flattering photos):

Image

Image

Fine trimmed and glued the top half of the forearms next, but forgot to take a photo. There is a little bit of an alignment issue which is similar to what I found when I did a set of jedi gauntlets but easily fixed.

Trimmed down the drop boxes: (tip I used was building up a little block of card to give me a consistent line around the edge of both inside and outside box.)

Image

Image

Image

Used halford plastic bumper filler to fill the seem on the biceps, shins and thighs. This stuff stinks and makes a mess so I would advise gloves, mask and opening a window:

Image

Image

Only managed to clean up the biceps and shins:
Image

Little trick I found. Sometimes there is a little air pocket in the filler so when sanding back it can create a little gap. I found using a liquid CA can fill these holes but just needs a bit more elbow grease when sanding back. This was my little tester but used it on some larger gaps as well:

Image

Next is finishing the forearms, finish getting the limbs ready for paint and making more of a start on the torso.

Bit more progress this evening.
Forearms are together and have been filled:

Image

Image

Image

Also tidied up the bottom cuff to make it flush. As you see in the pics above the bottom inside didn’t really line up that well so used the same angle and just sanded the hell out of it.

Image

Filler all sanded down on thighs:

Image

Image

With the filler I have used the super glue trick to help build up small gaps and even areas around the top and bottom edges of the armour to make everything line up neater.

Even got round to applying the first layer of primer on the limbs. Will need to be sanded down and another coat or two to make it super smooth before applying white. Primer was just Halfords grey primer, found this one is great as it dries really quick in light layers so enables you to get a good few pieces done.

Image

Image

Also added Velcro to the back of hand plates and the black gloves I have but forgot to take a photo again Doh!

Next on the construction list is the chest and the back. Painting wise have to sand and another coat of primer everything. Hope it can be done for mem but don’t think I will have the time, but will try my best.
