Generic Resistance pilot Briefing room to Full pilot. *Cleared 30/08*

Post by heliboy999 » Mon Apr 08, 2019 6:00 pm

Greetings all.

5 costumes down the line I have finally got around to starting my first Rebel costume and hopefully healing some of the hurt from a few years ago.

I was cast to be a Resistance pilot in TLJ and when i got to the fittings my suit wasn't there. The costume department couldn't explain why and eventually it was hinted that one of the main cast had damaged his suit so mine was used by him as a replacemnet instead.
I was cast as an engineer instead and had a great time but was bitter and twisted forever more lol.

Anyways.

I have managed to acquire a full Briefing room ensemble from a RL member who had it cleared before so hoping there won't be too much to do. The flight suit is away being altered as it is not quite my shape. Should be back mid April.

In the meantime I would like to get the ancillary pieces up for you to see as well as the parts I have acquired towards the full pilot set up.

I am struggling to find a Vest at the moment. Phil at RL is not answering messages so any pointers to other manufacturers would be appreciated.

Hi Lee,
Glad you made it here :)
Wow that sounds like quite a story hopefully not being a pilot on TLJ didn’t dampen things too much?! Did you make it in to the final edit of the film?

Hopefully we’ll be able to fulfil your pilot dreams at last.

As your suit is away for adjustments that’s a good start, I take it you’re going to shoot for the TLJ version of the pilot?

Phil on RL maybe snowed under with Celebration orders or just celebration prep for the RL, but the Forum has had issues over weekend and including today which appear to be resolved.
I would sit tight for a bit and if not I’ll see if I can give him a nudge :)

So vest aside have you got the other components?

Hi

Think we crossed mid upload.

Yes pictures are here of what I have so far.

Yes made it to final cut. 5 whole seconds!!! See top photo Image

Just been told that the costume wasn’t cleared but got the nod so still hoping not too much needed.

Thanks for info on Phil. Celebration huge time of year. Am hoping to get sorted by MCM end of May. May just be Briefing room if vest is a sticking point.

I’m guessing that was Barry’s Resistance Briefing room then as there was just one minor thing that needed changing which I think he did, would have to double check.
But otherwise you’re pretty much there.
The black series helmet is perfectly clearable with some mods, have you got an idea for a design?

You guessed correct Sir.
I believe he altered the back buckle as required.

I have and I would like go with this design on the helmet but I would like to change the black to Dark blue and the yellow to a more “Cadmium yellow” as per the colour scheme of the Helicopter shown.

I have started to 3D print a new Mic and other greebles but I am at a loss as to how to remove the small rectangular item on the right cheek. It’s in there and feels like I will break the helmet shell if I force it?
Any suggestions!
The same with the back greeble.

I saw you're also going with clearance with the garrison so I have no idea on their standards or requirements, all I can offer is our side of the fence.

RL generally accept either the TFA or LTJ lid style for generics but if you want to make it specific to match the rest of your parts it does make it more accurate. The BS is closer to TLJ out of the box.

Guessing you're going TFA given the hose and rear harness strap, so the power switch and thumb recess on the left of the lid need filling and smoothing over. I chop out the thick mic boom and replace it with stainless rod, retaining the mic and mount as they're decent enough and just drilling them out for the boom then adding the wire in. Some replace the whole assembly.

The cheek greeb does push through from the outside to the inside. There's usually some glue holding it in. It should remain in one part but you're probably replacing it anyway with the TFA one stuck on top of the cheek surface. For TLJ that greeb needs raising a few mm proud of the surface, not flush.

There's a small difference in the visor lock knob but keeping that TLJ one shouldn't be an issue. There are TFA parts available to print or metal ones if you wanted to replace it.

TFA rear canister greeb is larger and cylindrical, mounted on a wire to replace the moulded plastic legs. For TLJ I used the existing greeb, filling and drilling it to mount on a wire.

TFA helmet inners are black, not TLJ tan. You can cover them in black cloth and sandwich it back between the shell and the inner.

I repaint the dull grey plastic "metal" bits with a brighter silver/aluminium, it just looks better.

Can't see any problem with the paint scheme. Guess you're not retaining the "Ra Kura Base" inscription though. The dark blue in my colour scheme isn't far off yours.

I'd like to check the pockets on the flight suit and the neck closures.

Vests can be had from 4 suppliers I know of. Only one in the UK although I believe another is looking into it. Please feel free to ask any questions if you have them.

Regarding philonius, to give you some idea of timescale, I ordered in Nov and just sent it out now, so quite a heavy waiting time at the moment.
Cleared Costumes:

Nox - Utapau Shadow Clone
Pip Twosands - Rebel Hangar Technician
Conrad Anderson - Rogue 1 Commando
Dax Van Da-Boda - Briefing Room Resistance Pilot
Jax Parvell - OT Rebel Pilot

Rebel Legion Costume Judge - Pilots

Thanks guys for the info so far.
Its the little details that make the difference but also cause the most problems. The challenge is good.

I am away with work till the weekend so no tinkering till then. I am hoping to have my suit back by then and if so I will get some photos.

I have been in Touch with Phil and its looking like a 3 month wait for vests. Bugger.
It may be a Briefing room submission to start with.

When i have printed the Helmet greebles i will post a picture before painting. I will need to research some of the other WIPS with regard to helmets as i am not quite sure which pieces are different from each film.

Cheers

Hi everyone.

Helmet is coming on in the paint department. Long way to go but happy so far.

Vest has been commissioned so hoping to get it by June time.

I have my suit back from the seamstress and have some photos of the full Briefing room set up for your inspection.

From what I've looked at, most notably the pockets, I think it's ok but I do want to raise the collar fastenings. The standard published makes no mention of these but we operate under the assumption that there are supposed to be 3-4 silver or black flat hooks. One solution is to do the collar up for submission pics and hide them but we do generally have more hooks for the collar so you may look to change what you have. Here's a pic of mine as an example.
