Blaster advice

Post by sussexrebel » Wed May 08, 2019 1:40 pm

Hi, its been a bit of while! Picking up the costume build again, approval this year hopefully!!

I'm after some advice on a blaster, I like the idea of the A280, it really looks the part and finishes it off.

Does anyone have any links to a good kit (UK if poss?), found a few US based kits. Also a suitable replica M16/AR15 that will come apart as per a few YouTube vids? I've found a couple but they don't seem to come apart, one piece plastic?

Anyone ever 3d printed a kit for the whole blaster?

I also like the idea of the DH-17, easier to get hold of 3d printed in the UK by the looks of it? Does anyone ever holster it as an Endor commando? Like the idea of having it and not having to carry it all the time?

Thanks, Tom.

PS was anyone at the "Revenge of the 5th" event at the National Space Centre last weekend? Great little event, a few of UKG were there.

Hello, I made my A280 from a cheap bb firng M16, some aluminium u channel and abs pipes and sheet. I've seen resin kits from the US but nothing in Europe so I scratchbuilt mine. I think the M16 i used was a Wells 722 or similar.
I do have a 3d printed A300. Each module slots onto an abs pipe spine for reinforcement.
I haven't seen any references showing ERTs with holsters. Only pouches are on the standards.
I believe a couple of RLUK members were at that event too.
Happiness is a warm A280. Or A300. Even a Glie-44 at a pinch.

I think the intention was that most of the Strike Team were armed with A280s from the outset, hence why there don't appear to be any holsters for sidearms.

One or two guys can be seen during the battle running about with E11s, but I always assumed these were weapons they'd scooped up from dead Stormtroopers when the fighting breaks out. I also can't for the life of me find any reference to any troopers carrying DH17s in ROTJ, but I think they're included in the standards simply because they're an accepted Rebel blaster, and it's "imagineable" that they could have had them. Either way I think this is why there's no holster present on any of the Endor Troopers.

Unless you could find a suitable reference for a holster, I think you'd probably have to carry any sidearm you choose.

Just to add my tuppence, My A280 was made from an old M16bb rifle and a kit from the main forum, although I dont know if that kit is still available. There are some decent 3d printed kits out there but to make it look right you need to sand the lines and fill them. As far as a sidearm goes, Its not actually cannon or part of the approvel as Alex has said, but RL acceptable to have and wear a holster with a DH17 or a DL44 as a back up weapon just like alot of the X wing pilots do. I often wear DH17 holstered with my ERT kit, and either that or a DL44 with my X wing kit. Hope that helps
