Fraz's Generic Jedi Build

Post by Fraz » Tue Oct 08, 2019 8:03 pm

Hi, Finally got someone round to get some pics.
On hindsight I need to find a way of closing the white undershirt more tightly as its barely visible. I also didn't realise the outer tunic was twisted. making the shoulders uneven and the tabards lie uneven in some pics. All a learning curve.

Edit.
New pics have replaced old, look a bit better.? Still need to find better undershirt/closure

Thanks Mark.

I figured out what I was doing wrong while dressing. I was trying to wear it like a dressing gown rather than letting the material fall naturally. It skewed the shoulders making the tabards appear different lengths. I'll have another go tonight..
It's all a learning curve..:)

Some good first photos! As you said, you were pulling the tunic too tight, which I think has caused most of the issues. Get some more photos with the costume hanging more naturally, and we'll see where everything stands.
I'm also not sure about the grey cloak - particularly the fabric. That weave is very reminiscent of the Emperor's outfit, and the large checked pattern is quite distracting. The other judges may be fine with it, though.

Looks a lot better now! Two things I can notice here:
1. The tabards need to hang straight below the waist - an easy fix for this is adding a dart at the waistline, creating a slight angle in the tabards.
2. The collar band on your outer tunic looks quite narrow - the costume standards call for a collar of approx 2". What does yours measure?

Because I'm shorter we reduced the measurements to be a little more proportional.
The collar is 1.5" (or 38mm). The way it was stitched in by the overlocker makes it look narrower. I could press it out, if that helps.?

Yeah, press it out if you can. It doesn't look quite wide enough at the moment.

The other option would be to add a false collar in the same brown material as the tabards.?

I don't think that would work, sorry. It would need to match the OT fabric rather than be of contrasting material.

Tabards look good! Can we see a photo of you wearing the full outfit with the pressed collar on the tunic, please?
