Corvid-19 Current status of MCM Troops

Post by Jerrick Sunrunner » Mon Mar 09, 2020 9:26 pm

I wanted to post up as to where we stand at present. This is an unprecedented situation and the Events Team are monitoring the current guidance and working very closely with organisers on a case by case basis.

Whilst the Government has announced that the UK is still in the 'Containment' phase of its response for combating the Covid-19 virus, plans are changing daily and they could move into the 'delay' phase imminently.

A large number of shows are already being postponed or cancelled globally. Some of these events have been run by REEDPop, and others recently cancelled were at the NEC. (Not cancelled by the NEC at this time.) The latest is The Photography Show which was due to run the week before MCM Comic Con: Birmingham. Whilst we have no firm information at the moment, we have to prepare ourselves that there is now a high probability that this MCM event may be cancelled at any point between now and the day of the show. Obviously, there is nothing we can do if this happens, and we will still be down to attend all other MCM shows for 2020, should they go ahead.

If this show does go ahead, we will have to affect some precautionary measures for our attendance. This will affect certain types of food and drink available in the changing room, the handling of props etc. on our stand and interaction with the public for photos. (We would look to be following the MCM guidelines on this last point.) This is not an exhaustive list and additional requirements, or measures may come into effect for MCM and other upcoming events.

Please keep checking on the forum as full details and advisements will be posted periodically as the situation dictates and we receive more information.

Thanks.

As of 17:00 on the 12/03/20 MCM event is still on.
The government feel that social distancing is too early in the epidemic so we are running under the assumption that it will still go ahead but will monitor the situation accordingly.

On the matter of troops and your participation at events if you feel unwell and think you have the symptoms please stay at home.
If you have vulnerable members of your family at home then please weigh up the risks to you and your house hold so if that means you wish to pull out of any event please do not feel guilty or pressured to attend.

If you want to cancel for MCM Birmingham either now or later please post up on the signup thread, which I’m now unlocking.

Many hotel chains are allowing rooms to be rebooked or cancelled during this period but please check your hotels website if your worried that MCM will be cancelled last minute and you may loose money on your hotel room then please don’t worry, cancel your room
And attendance.

The MCM events team have looked at how to reduce how potential germs are being transmitted at MCM so simple things like the open tubs of haribo probably won’t be available, we may take the option to limit the handling of props on the tables.

If you’re worried about this outbreak Empathy has found this very useful advice from Mind:
