Bowcaster-original trilogy

Post by WookieeDave » Wed May 20, 2020 1:08 pm

I've got a threat on the UKG site about my bowcaster build. I'll add some photos on here as well

I won't put all the post on here from the garrison but just to summarise. I have made a base out of mdf which I then used filler and lots of sanding. I was going to do an ANH but I might go with ESB. There are subtle differences including the strap. To be honest I've been pleased with progress so farImageImageImageImage

I've been busy sanding, filling and more sanding. After a few coats of primer and more sanding I think the base is ready for the next step. I've got some greeblies already and have made some side plates. I will make sure everything fits and then make the bow out of some aluminium I have. The weather has been on my side and I've been sitting outside doing the sanding, so much so I've been sunburntImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

I've mainly used these images plus ones from the RPF when people have the correct crossbowImageImage

It’s coming along really well Dave. I have two bowcasters. The 1st is a Purgework Props commission based on the original trilogy design.

The second was a resin kit that I put together and is based on the new sequel trilogy as there are subtle differences between the two.

Been working away on this. Still working on the placement of the bits and prices. Zorki 1 camera ordered, resin single point scope, 2 4x20 side scopes, correct width strap and various other bits are on way. I've got plenty of time as we aren't trooping at the moment ImageImage

Cheers. All these years I was looking for a hobby and costume/prop building seems to be it!

This is looking great.

For those of us who have no idea what we are doing. Did you cut out 2 flat bits of MDF and screw them together? Can you use any filler on wood?

I used two pieces of 18mm mdf which I initially glued together, then put a few screws in to be doubly sure it wasn't going to fall apart. I used ronseal 2 part wood filler which dries as hard as a rock. I have some original photos which are floating about the Web which everyone seems to use as a guide and I then just spent ages sanding. On a few bits I added some extra thin pieces of mdf that I had lying around to make it as more natural shape as it was looking a bit flat. First time I've done anything like this so it's all learning!
