Scarif commando WIP

Post by Brisk Arper Vokchi » Thu May 24, 2018 2:43 am

Hey everyone, haven't posted since the forum switch last year, nearly done with my commando, saw the CRLs today so I can see I'm not 100% there but I think I'm close lol

I can see I need to source the best pouch (I believe it's a single AK pouch but I could be mistaken) and I need to drop the scarf, but other than that I'm pretty close I feel.

Let me know what you think guys.

Nice to see the flak vest variant. Adds variety in a group when you all look different but the same.

Cloth topper looks good. Blast ring has the red starbird which I personally don't think fits as it's from a poster and not the yellow pathfinders insignia from screen. Logo reads as optional from the standard anyway. Helmet box over your right ear looks rather large and I can't see the left one clearly but it looks better. Again, they're optional.

Scarf you've covered, a black mesh sniper veil is an easy item to get if you want it.

I like the vest and the standards have a couple of points to be mindful of.
vest in dark blue, brown, or tan with accurate greeblie on upper left chest, color matching pouch on left chest below the greeblie, and adjustment strapping. Optional color detail on right shoulder may be present in yellow or red and white.
It looks a little light in that shot, could be the lighting as it's requested to be dark blue. The pouch under the greeblie needs to match the colour but the shape is open ended in the standard but looks like a dual AK pouch. Have a dig about for something suitable, all the better if it matches any references you find. Melshi doesn't have that pouch, neither does Kappehl but Basteren and Sefla do in some pics. Kappehl also has the coyote undershirt in the visual dictionary, I think. The rank badge may be unnecessary.

The undershirt looks a decent colour, can't see if it's zipped or not. The stripes on the sleeve may merit attention:
Sleeves should have row of tan stripes from shoulder to cuff. Stripes should be approximately 1.5 inches in width.
They look a little thin, how wide are they? They also usually appear segmented and not contiguous. Not that the standard picks that up, but compare reference pics to see what you think.

Can't see the belt buckle clearly, that's got either a roll pin or an accurate cover plate over it.

The pouches look good. You've a Greek Thompson and 3 grenade pouches but the leather one round the back I'd lose. Sterling and Sten mag pouches are usually bandolier style and not on the belt.

Blaster looks good. I've seen a lot worse than the M4 style rear stock but that can be modified using styrene if you want to match screen references.

Might be the light again as the trousers look a little lighter than coyote. The cuffs should cover the top of the boot and I'd look to make the boot uppers all the same colour. The black panels stand out a bit for me. I guess if you follow the wording it's black or brown, not black and brown.

Overall, it's a long way toward what's needed but you may want to consider the points I've raised. I think it's great to see a variant like yours, it'd look good when cleared.

Thanks man, it's been a but if a long slog, and the best and trousers do look a Lot Darker in reality, I spent a long time colour matching and weathering them as per the visual dictionary so I think it's just an unfortunately bright photo, the rest I totally agree with, and the belt buckle is the plate with greeblie, I'll grab a photo of it when I get home, hadn't realised the jacket had ridden over it, as f9r the jacket, it's been bothering me for a while, I may just try and find a decent Cassian jacket to replace it.

Before I bite the bullet, these are the gaiters I'm looking for Yes?

I'm gonna totally redo the boots and I wasn't happy with the cuffs I made anyway.

Swiss gaiters like those are an option. Again try to get them to blend with the boot colour.

Will do, I'll grab these soon and then once I've got them I'll spend some time finding or modding boots to match, and I think I've found a decent Cassian jacket and pouches for the flak vest, less expensive than I feared lol

I'm excited to see the vest variant.......its the bit i most like in these kits, Coporal madell is on my list. I 'd agree that its a little on the light side, can it be weathered to darken it? What fabric it is?

It's just an unfortunate photo I think, doesn't look that light in person, but it could be darkened if necessary, it's a Vietnam vest waterproof cover that's been modified and fabric painted.

I'm in Scotland at the moment but when I get home to Wales I'll grab some photos in normal lighting so you guys can see the colour a bit better.

You can see the colour of the vest and the belt buckle with greeblies a lot better in this one.
